Dr. James Third joins our group from the University of Cambridge, UK.

Cluster "Polly" is now operational. Polly comprises 132 CPUs (AMD 2.8 GHz 2x Six Core Opteron)
connected via InfiniBand. Total RAM and hard-disk storage is 704 GB and 20 TB, respectively.

The research of the Laboratory of Energy Science and Engineering is concerned with the sustainable generation of electricity.
Research in the following fields is currently pursued:
- CO2 capture using gas-solid reactions
- Chemical looping combustion as a novel chemical cycle for the inherent capture of CO2
- Production of hydrogen from biomass
- Fundamentals of gas-solid reactions
- Experimental investigation of single- and multi-phase granular systems
- Numerical simulation of single and multi-phase granular systems
